Science without Borders

logo-vetorizada_portuguesScience without Borders (Ciência sem Fronteiras – CsF) was a government program started in 2011 and closed in 2016, which sought to promote the consolidation, expansion and internationalization of science and technology, innovation and competitiveness of Brazil through exchange programs and international mobility. The initiative was the result of a joint effort of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC), through their respective funding agencies and departments of Higher Education and Technological Education.

The program contemplated up to a 100,000 exchange scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students to study at universities abroad aiming at keeping in touch with competitive educational systems related to technology and innovation. Apart from that, it attracted foreign researchers who developed activities in Brazil and established partnership with Brazilian researchers within the priority fields defined by the program.

At UFSC, 2.766 scholarships were awarded to students (regularly enrolled or graduated), researchers and faculty members (data from January 2016):

  • 2213 – sandwich undergraduate degree;
  • 347 – sandwich doctoral degree;
  • 68 – full doctoral degree;
  • 70 – postdoctoral degree;
  • 36 – special visiting researcher;
  • 1 – full master’s degree.
