The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) is an American non-profit, university-based organization, to which UFSC is linked since 2012. Its aim is to facilitate exchanges between international students and the university community by offering courses, language exchange, travel and other opportunities to promote Brazilian culture and knowledge. USAC exchange students hosted by UFSC take courses related to their studies for a period ranging from one to nine months. In return, USAC contributes to UFSC’s internationalization in positive and dynamic ways, offering scholarships for UFSC students, faculty and staff to study abroad, providing a contact network of international universities, among other actions.
USAC’s mission is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to succeed in the global society of the twenty-first century. It strives to provide an authentic, quality context in which students may grow into engaged citizens of the world, not only in the classroom but also through fieldtrips, integrated living and academic experiences, sports, internships, and volunteer and service learning opportunities.
For more than 30 years, USAC has provided university students with affordable, valuable study abroad programs and contributed to the internationalization of universities in the US and abroad. Currently, the organization has programs in 25 countries. Up to now, USAC has welcomed more than 450 international students in Florianópolis, from 50 different universities.
USAC classes are held at UFSC and its main office, linked to the Office of International Relations (SINTER), is located at the School of Communication and Arts (CCE), building A, room 219, 2nd floor.
