The Consulate General of the United States in Porto Alegre, through its Regional Office for English Language Instruction (RELO), the Online Professional English Network (OPEN), and Ohio University, are offering UFSC professors the course English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI).

It will be an eight-week online course in English with Ohio University, starting on 23 August to 23 November  2021. The course is free of charge and there are 10 openings for UFSC professors to be selected by SINTER.

The target audience is UFSC permanent faculty members (not retired) who are proficient in English (B2, C1, C2) and who offer or intend to offer extension courses and regular courses in their respective areas of knowledge in English.

The objective of this training is to provide teachers with tools and methodologies to develop strategies for teaching disciplinary content in English and share their learning and materials with other professors, thus contributing to the internationalization of UFSC.

The course will enable them to identify the challenges professors and students face in their EMI classes and develop strategies to help students learn the course content while developing or improving their English language skills. In addition, professors will be in an international group with participants from around the world.

Topics include course design, program development, creating lessons and materials, interactive teaching in English, and supporting learning through technology.

The course, developed by Ohio University, will be in English and will require approximately 8-10 hours of work/week.
