CAPES Launches Call for Applications for PEC-PG Program with 650 Scholarships for International Graduate Students in Brazil

The Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) has published a Call for Applications for the Programa de Estudantes-Convênio de Pós-Graduação (PEC-PG), a program developed in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). PEC-PG offers foreign citizens the opportunity to pursue full graduate degrees or participate in short-term exchange programs (sandwich doctoral program) at educational and research institutions in Brazil.

In this edition, a total of 650 scholarships will be awarded:

  • 100 full doctoral scholarships (up to 48 months);
  • 350 sandwich doctoral scholarships (6 to 10 months);
  • 200 full master’s scholarships (up to 24 months).

The total investment by CAPES is R$ 41 million. Monthly stipends will be R$2,100.00 for master’s students and R$3,100.00 for doctoral students. An additional R$400.00 monthly healthcare allowance will also be provided.

Selection schedule

The selection process begins with the Brazilian higher education institutions submitting their available places by 31 July 2025. CAPES will publish the list of places for full master’s and doctoral degrees by 13 August, and for doctoral sandwich programs by 30 September.

Applications will take place in two periods:

  • From 14 August to 29 September 2025, for full master’s and doctoral programs;
  • From 1 October to 30 December 2025, for the sandwich doctoral program.

Academic activities are schedule to being in the first semester of 2026 for full programs and in August 2026 for the doctoral sandwich program. Access the full schedule in the PEC-PG call for applications.

SINTER Receives Visit from the Founder and Executive Secretary General of the Global Rectoral Board Community

On 1 July 2025, the Office of International Relations (SINTER) at UFSC welcomed Prof. Luciano Rodrigues Marcelino, founder and Executive Secretary General of the Global Rectoral Board Community. He was received by the Director of International Relations, Dr. Fernanda Leal.

The institutional visit provided a valuable space for dialogue on strategic opportunities for international cooperation, academic innovation, and the institutional strengthening of UFSC through engagement with the Rectoral Board community. This global community brings together rectors, chief academic officers, and educational leaders in general, as well as representatives from university networks in 33 countries, committed to transforming higher education.

The meeting included a presentation of the strategic programs developed by Luces Latam Academy – The Corporate University of Higher Education, the executive education branch of the Global Rectoral Board Community. This program aims to support and strengthen the work of Latin American and Caribbean higher education institutions, particularly community and purpose-driven universities.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss best practices in university administration in Latin America and the Caribbean, in dialogue with UFSC’s management team.
