  • Título do projeto: Temporalities of the university territory: between the built and the proposed spaces
  • Coordenador: José Ripper Kós (POSARQ/CTC)

  • Abstract: The human impacts that circumscribe the Anthropocene carry a chain of critical consequences. Materialized from economic, scientific, and pedagogical practices, many of these impacts position higher education institutions as producers and reproducers of knowledge linked to predatory practices in relation to the environment. At the same time, they grant the university territory a critical influence on local systems, acting as a social infrastructure that promotes resilience to the Anthropocene dynamics. By associating time and space, the temporality notion makes it possible to investigate different political moments that surround the university territory as urban typologies that prospect ways to induce positive impacts on cities’ future. When considering the role of campuses in the face of critical climatic and socio- spatial scenarios, one wonders how their infrastructure results, reproduce, and can reverse the power relations materialized in the campuses’ territories. Through the investigation of university territories, and their temporalities, the interdependence between environmental, socio-technical aspects, and power relations is highlighted, in the search for strategies for acting as qualified infrastructures. Thus, the temporal and spatial specificities should emphasize, respectively, the organizational foundations of universities under a theoretical approach and, in a practical-propositional procedure, possible perspectives for their territories. From the Federal University of Santa Catarina campus, parallels and divergences will be explored, formulating comparative analysis with European case studies, which share typological formulations as social infrastructures, and carry, in broader and different historical periods, and in their most recent actions, political, social, and environmental aspects that relate them to globalized contexts.
