UFSC participates in the FAUBAI 2025 Conference: Towards equitable and sustainable partnerships

SINTER Team at the FAUBAI 2025 Conference

The FAUBAI 2025 Conference is the largest and most important international higher education event in Brazil, bringing together a significant number of representatives from universities, organizations and government agencies around the world. This edition, held in Brasília from 26 to 30 April, was themed “Towards equitable and sustainable partnerships” and featured workshops, plenary sessions on issues relevant to the contemporary context of international university relations, and parallel sessions. Two highlights in international cooperation promoted by the Brazilian government and universities were the sessions “PEC-G: 60 years of international cooperation and internationalization at home” and “CAPES-Global: Pesentation of the new program.

Meeting with HSE University, Russia

The event was an opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of universities and institutions, with a view to establishing and strengthening UFSC’s international cooperation. UFSC’s Secretary for International Relations, Prof. Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho, and the Director of International Relations, Dr. Fernanda Leal, held meetings with representatives from Université Laval (Québec, Canada); Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Spain); Politecnico di Torino (Italy); HSE University (Russia); Universidad del Valle (Colombia) and Universitat Munster (Germany), among other universities. They also met with representatives from the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy, in light of UFSC’s participation in the English Language Fellow Program

Meeting with UPF, Spain

UFSC had a prominent role in the parallel session “South-South Cooperation”, held on 28 April and moderated by Prof. Machado Filho. In the session, Dr. Leal presented two papers: “South-South relations in the context of internationalization of higher education” (authors: Fernanda Leal, Stefani de Souza and Mario Cesar Barreto Moraes) and “Overcoming the global imaginary: The academic cooperation between Brazil and East Timor” (authors: Fernanda Leal, Suzani Cassiani and Patricia Geraldi), sharing UFSC’s experiences in South-South cooperation.

Also in the same session, Dr. Stefani de Souza, a staff member at the UFSC Office of Communication and UFSC internationalization agent, presented the work “International extension projects and the empowering of communities: the case of the partnership between Brazil and Mozambique” (authors: Stefani de Souza and Mário César Barreto Moraes). In another session, she presented the work “University extension in the process of internationalization of education higher education” (authors: Stefani de Souza, Mário César Barreto Moraes and Fernanda Leal), both derived from her doctoral dissertation.

Luciana Miashiro Lima presenting the SINTER Translation Service

Luciana Miashiro Lima, a staff member at the SINTER Translation Service and doctoral student in the Graduate Program in English (PPGI) at UFSC, took part in the session “Technologies and Digital Systems in the Internationalization of Research: Building Global Academic Bridges”. She presented the translation services offered at SINTER and the project to translate all UFSC undergraduate course titles into English. Completed in 2024, this initiative enables students and graduates to issue their Transcript of Records and Certificate of Enrollment in English, free of charge. The session was coordinated by Prof. Lincoln Fernandes, from PPGI, who also presented the work “AI-Powered Chatbot and International Academic Collaboration”.

Ana Luísa da Silveira presenting “Green Choices: The emotional impact of sustainability and the choices of international students”

Finally, Ana Luísa da Silveira, a staff member at the UFSC Office of Distance Education (SEAD), who previously worked for six years at SINTER, presented the work “Green Choices: The emotional impact of sustainability and the choices of international students”. The work was co-authored with Sebastian Fernandes, CEO and founder of FixTerra.

The FAUBAI 2026 Confere is expected to be held in Florianópolis, with UFSC participating in the event’s organization.
