Representatives of the member universities at the Reunión del Grupo de Delegados Asesores of AUGM

The Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo [Association of Montevideo Group Universities] (AUGM) celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, marking three decades as a network of public, autonomous and self-governing universities in the region.

The celebration was attended by representatives of the member universities, who participated of an agenda of activities that took place on 8, 9, 10 and 11 March 2022.

The Group of Advisory Delegates from AUGM had its first post-pandemic in-person meeting. The Reunión del Grupo de Delegados Asesores took place on 8 and 9 March at the Universidad de La República in Montevideo, Uruguay, as part of the commemorative activities for the 30^th anniversary of the Association.

The Secretary for International Relations at UFSC, Lincoln Fernandes, attended the session of Advisory Delegates, which had, among the subjects, the definition of places for academic mobility of students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty and staff.

A total of 37 in-person places were negotiated for the 2022.2 semester, which will help to strengthen the south-south relations with universities in Argentina (Universidad de Córdoba, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Universidad de Buenos Aires, among others), Chile (Universidad de Chile), and Uruguay (Universidad de La República).

The Secretary for International Relations also represented the Rector Prof. Ubaldo C. Balthazar at the Consejo Extraordinario de Rectores de AUGM [Extraodinary Council of Rectors of AUGM] on 10 March. Among the main topics discussed, the following stood out: the participation of AUGM in the World Higher Education Conference (WHEC) to be held in May in Barcelona, Spain, and the proposal of the Declaration of the Council of Rectors of AUGM to be presented at the CMES.

On 11 March, the Secretary participated in the International Commemorative Seminar of the 30 years of AUGM: “Desafios de la Educación Superior en America Latina (Challenges of Higher Education in Latin America)”, which featured various round tables on topics related to internationalization and academic integration, university autonomy and financing of Higher Education, and the future of higher education in the 21st century.

Finally, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) received from AUGM a plaque as a way of recognizing the member universities of the Association for their scientific, technological, educational and cultural cooperation.
