SINTEGRA: International student paths The SINTEGRA: International student paths: support and integration project aims to create welcoming spaces and strengthen the integration of international students from the Programa Estudantes-Convênio de Graduação (PEC-G) into UFSC. The project addresses academic matters, the sense of university community, cultural issues, and ethnic and racial issues. SINTEGRA is a partnership between SINTER and the UFSC Department of Psychology. It is coordinated by Professors Elka Hostensky and Lígia Feitosa, with the collaboration of Professor Valéria de Bettio Mattos and undergraduate Psychology students. Currently, the project holds weekly meetings with international students, develops informational materials about university life at UFSC, offers training sessions for staff and students, organizes a Student Integration Program, and creates content on Instagram. ·         SINTEGRA webpage

UFSC without Borders The UFSC Sem Fronteiras Project is a collective initiative that seeks to promote welcoming, integration, pedagogical support, and outreach for international students, refugees, and migrants at UFSC. The project brings together migrant, refugee, asylum-seeking, and international undergraduate and graduate students to carry out activities such as academic integration, support and monitoring of student trajectories, and cultural and artistic initiatives. These efforts contribute to student retention and strengthen the academic engagement of these students at the University. In addition, the project engages with the broader community by publicizing opportunities for admission to UFSC’s undergraduate programs and raising awareness about human rights, while also contributing to the University’s internationalization efforts. ·         UFSC without Borders website

Welcome Session for International Students Every semester, SINTER holds a welcome session for international exchange students at UFSC. Study Buddy Program SINTER’s Study Buddy Program was created to give guidance and assistance to international exchange students at UFSC on how to proceed in their first days in Florianópolis and at UFSC and, in return, provide Brazilian students the opportunity to get in contact with students from foreign universities and cultures from all over the world. Ateliê das Migrações (Migrations Clinic) The Ateliê das Migrações, run by the Center for Studies on Psychology, Migrations and Cultures (NEMPsiC), offers free in-person psychoterapy sessions for immigrants and refugees. The sessions are conducted through the Psychological Care Service (Sapsi). Grounded in the concept of a clinical-political device, the Atelier aims to provide specialized listening for immigrants and refugees from an ethnopsychoanalytic perspective. ·         Telephone: +55 48 3721-8571

Institutional Program for Educational Support to Students (PIAPE) The Institutional Program for Educational Support to Students (PIAPE) is run by the Pedagogical Support and Evaluation Coordination Office (CAAP) of the Prorectorate for Undergraduate Studies and Basic Education (PROGRAD). It provides educational support and guidance to all undergraduate students at UFSC, including international students. The objective is to develop activities that favor student retention and the quality of training in undergraduate programs, meeting learning needs and offering conditions for better academic performance. ·         Telephone: 48 3721-8307

Immigrant and Refugee Support Center (NAIR)

The Immigrant and Refugee Support Center (NAIR) is an outreach project developed by the Center for Decolonial and Postcolonial Research and Practices Applied to International Relations and to International Law (Eirenè) at UFSC. NAIR is coordinated by Professor Karine de Souza Silva. The project carries out the following activities: 1) daily assistance to immigrants and refugees in partnership with the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU), in the areas of Consular Law, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights; 2) promotion of events and research on immigration, black diaspora and racial hierarchies; 3) organization of a database on immigration in greater Florianópolis; 4) promotion of concrete actions aimed at integrating immigrants and refugees into UFSC and the region; 5) participation in the Immigrant and Refugee Support Working Group (GTI) of the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina (ALESC) and in the Greater Florianópolis Immigrant and Refugee Support Group (GAIRF); 6) implementation of social actions to help immigrants in vulnerable situations. At the DPU, service is dedicated to promoting free legal assistance for low-income people, advice on migration regularization, asylum requests, family reunion, degree legalization, passport renewal, case status verification, renewal of files, mandates, etc.

Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair (CSVM)

The Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair (CSVM) aims to promote support for immigrants and refugees. The project is developed by the Center for Decolonial and Postcolonial Research and Practices Applied to International Relations and to International Law (Eirenè) at UFSC. It is coordinated by Professors Janaina Santos, Maria Helena Lenzi and Daniel Granada. CSVM promotes actions in three dimensions: teaching, offering courses on asylum, human rights, immigration and statelessness;  research, producing and supervising undergraduate and graduate research studies; and outreach, comprising four projects: 1. Eirenè/NAIR – Immigrant and Refugee Support Center, 2. NUPLE – Portuguese as a host language; 3. Immigrants’ and Refugees’ right to the city in Greater Florianópolis: integration into public services and leisure activities, 4. Center for Studies on Psychology, Migrations and Cultures (NEMPsiC). The outreach projects offer Portuguese classes, promote training and events, produce educational materials, and provide legal assistance to refugees, stateless persons and immigrants. CSVM works together with several partners, in particular, the Migrant Pastoral Center in Florianópolis and the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU). It has an active participation in the Immigrant and Refugee Support Working Group (GTI) of the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina (ALESC) and in the Greater Florianópolis Immigrant and Refugee Support Group (GAIRF).

Escuta Preta Project – Support, listening and reflection group

The Escuta Preta [Black Listening] Project – Support, Listening and Reflection Group is a partnership between the Department of Psychology and the Prorectorate for Affirmative Action and Equity (PROAFE) aimed at promoting support and empathic listening for black students at UFSC regarding the psychosocial effects of racism. Black students from any program on UFSC Florianópolis Campus can participate, except for Psychology students.

Kadila Institute for African and Diaspora Studies The Kadila Institute for African and Diaspora Studies develops teaching, research and outreach activities in the field of African and diaspora studies. It interacts with local, national and international networks and with academic and civil society institutions and associations.
