Applications open for USAC Study Buddy Program – Summer Session II

Applications are open for the USAC Study Buddy Program. USAC – University Studies Abroad Consortium – is a non-profit, university-based organization that has as one of its purposes to offer English learning opportunities for UFSC’s academic community. The Study Buddy Program is an initiative for UFSC students to get to know students from other countries and cultures and improve their English through practice.

At first, USAC will promote a few integration events, and, later, the UFSC student will keep in touch with his/her study buddy. If you are a student interested in participating in the program for the Summer Session II (July – August 2019), keep in mind that you will need to:

Education in Ireland representative gives lecture at UFSC

On 6 June 2019, UFSC welcomed the visit of Sarah O’Sullivan, a representative of Education in Ireland (Brazil). Ms. O’Sullivan gave a lecture to UFSC students on exchange opportunities in Ireland, covering topics such as application processes, advantages of the Irish higher education system, scholarship opportunities and visa application procedures. The event was held in the Harry Laus Room at the Central Library, located on the Florianópolis Campus.

Internship vacancy at SINTER – Translation Support (Portuguese/English)

Target students (exclusively from UFSC): English Language and Literature undergraduates.

Work hours: morning or afternoon shift (20 hours per week).

Start date: 1 July 2019.

Remuneration: R$ 364,00 + R$ 132,00 (transportation vouchers) = R$ 496,00.

Requirements:  2nd semester of studies or beyond, no course failure due to unsatisfactory attendance, advanced level of English, excellent writing, responsibility, initiative and punctuality.

Internship duties: assist our office in the translation of institutional websites and documents and in other translation needs linked to the university’s internationalization process.

Florianópolis welcomes the Mobile Consulate of Colombia

From 29 to 31 May 2019, the Mobile Consulate of Colombia will be issuing several documents, such as consular registrations, judicial records, passports, original and duplicate ID cards, birth, death and marriage registrations, signature notarizations, among others, on UFSC Florianópolis Campus.  Previously requested documents will also be available for collection on campus.

The Consulate of Colombia informs that all services will be carried out observing the specific application requirements. To check the requirements, go to the Consulate’s website.

Those wishing to collect previously requested documents must send an email to csaopaulo@cancilleria.goc.co requesting the delivery of the documents in Florianópolis.  The request must be made until 28 May, 5 p.m.

UFSC hosts lecture about exchange opportunities in Ireland

On 6 June 2019 (Thursday), UFSC will host the lecture “Exchange opportunities in Ireland” given by Sarah O’Sullivan, a representative from Education in Ireland. During the lecture, Sarah will answer questions and talk to the students about study possibilities in Ireland.

The event will take place at the Harry Laus Projection Room, UFSC Central Library – Trindade Campus, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Registrations open for USAC courses in English

Registrations are open for USAC courses taught in English. These courses are also attended by international exchange students.

See below the courses available and the requirements for registration.

Requirements for registration:

  • be regularly enrolled at UFSC;
  • have advanced level of English (listening and speaking skills);
  • have specific interest in the subject and availability to attend at least 90% of the classes.

Registration procedures:

Those interested in attending the courses must go to USAC’s office (Room 219, Building A – CCE) on 27 May 2019, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday to Thursday), for a brief interview in English and to complete the registration. If it is not possible to register in person, please contact USAC’s office at +55 48 3721 6208 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday to Thursday).

Course: Anthropology and Culture in Brazil

  • Course description: Register to this fun and free capoeira class, at basic level, with USAC students. Learn this Brazilian art along with North American students.
