Florianópolis, also known by its nickname “Floripa”, is the capital and second largest city in the state of Santa Catarina.  It has the third highest Human Development Index score among Brazilian cities.

Floripa offers the comfort of a developed urban center while maintaining its intimate contact with nature. Sea, hillsides and more than 40 beaches are all nestled in a breathtaking landscape.

Most of the city lies on the long, slender Santa Catarina Island, which is 54km long and 18km wide. The city’s population, according to 2022 IBGE population estimate, is of 574.200.

Tourism is the basis of the local economy, which means that the population triples during summer months. The city’s economy is also heavily based on technology and services.
