Brazilian Portuguese Survival Course – 2023
The Brazilian Portuguese Survival Course, made available for partner institutions and the international community at UFSC from 27 March 2023, was conceived by the Office of International Relations (SINTER) during the term 2016-2022 and produced by the Office of Distance Learning (SEAD).
This course focuses on the need for our partners’ academic community to have a first contact with the structure and vocabulary of Brazilian Portuguese before starting their mobility and/or cooperation activities in our university.

UFSC receives visit from Chilean institution to strengthen partnerships between the universities

UFSC welcomes delegation from Universidad de Chile.
On 20 and 21 March 2023, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) welcomed a delegation from Universidad de Chile to strengthen the internationalization relations of doctoral programs in the areas of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at both institutions.
The delegation that visited UFSC, on behalf of the Rector of the Universidad de Chile, was composed of the University Senator and Professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, Prof. Arturo Squella, the Director of Innovation and Technology, Prof. Eduardo Soto Bustamante, and the Head of the Rector’s Office, Mr. Daniel Burgos Bravo.
During their visit to UFSC, the representatives of the Chilean institution visited the School of Biological Sciences (CCB), the School of Technology (CTC), the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (CFM) and the School of Agricultural Sciences (CCA) in order to learn about the university’s research laboratories and analyze the graduate teaching perspectives at UFSC. This analysis was targeted at the possibility of establishing collaboration agreements between the institutions in these areas.

UFSC signs cooperation agreement with UBC and receives visit from Canadian professors
The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the University of British Columbia (UBC) now have a cooperation agreement that facilitates student and faculty mobility, ELAP scholarships and doctoral sandwich programs.

To further strengthen the collaboration between UBC, the Applied Ethology Laboratory (LETA) at UFSC and other Brazilian institutions, professors Daniel M. Weary and Marina A. G. von Keyserlingk have returned to Brazil for a visit. Together with Professors Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho and Maria José Hötzel, the Canadian professors will interact with other Brazilian research groups in the area of Applied Ethology and Animal Welfare.
As an example of this interaction, the hybrid course “Animal Behavior and Welfare” is being held jointly with the Graduate Program in Agroecosystems at UFSC between 16 and 17 March. The course is taught in English by professors Daniel M. Weary and Marina A. G. von Keyserlingk, from UBC, Luiz C. Pinheiro Machado Filho and Maria J. Hötzel, from UFSC, and Ruan Daros, from PUC-PR, with 57 students from these institutions enrolled.
Although the agreement has been signed recently, the collaboration between LETA at UFSC and the Animal Welfare Program (AWP) at UBC has been going on since 2002. This collaboration has also produced dozens of joint publications, undergraduate projects, master’s thesis and doctoral dissertations.

SINTER participates in EAIE (European Association for International Education) podcast
The episode “A briefing on Brazil” of the EAIE (European Association for International Education) podcast was aired on 15 March with the participation of the Director of International Relations at UFSC, Fernanda Leal, and the President of the Insper Institute of Education and Research, Marcelo Knobel.The episode featured a talk about the process of internationalization in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions in 2023 and discussed the importance of inclusion, equity and diversity in Brazilian institutions. Another point raised in the episode was the place of foreign languages in higher education in the country.
