UFSC Professor conducts research in the Department of Linguistics at Stony Brook University, United States
Professor Sandra Quarezemin, from the Department of Vernacular (Portuguese) Language and Literature and a member of the Graduate Program in Linguistics at UFSC, was selected for a Fulbright “All Disciplines Scholar Award – Cycle 2022-2023″ and obtained a Visiting Scholar grant to develop a research project in the Department of Linguistics at Stony Brook University, United States. The research, carried out from September to December 2022 (fall semester) and developed in collaboration with Professor Francisco Ordóñez, was centered on the teaching of grammar through the scientific method, the creation of a software for teaching syntax in undergraduate courses (developed by Professor Richard Larson, from Stony Brook University), and on a comparative study of Brazilian Portuguese, within the area of grammatical theory and analysis.The “All Disciplines Scholar Award – Cycle 2022-2023” granted 20 teaching and/or research awards to professors and researchers, who have achieved their doctoral degree at least seven years ago, in all disciplines. Of the seven Fulbrighters who arrived at Stony Brook University in September 2022, only Professor Quarezemin represented Brazil.

UFSC strengthens agenda with institutions from Japan and Singapore
The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina is studying partnerships in specialized areas with seven universities, three from Japan and four from Singapore. The networking began during an international mission that lasted 15 days and ended on 26 November. The prorector for Research and Innovation, Jacques Mick, was part of the group led by the Support Foundation for Research and Innovation of the State of Santa Catarina (Fapesc) and by the Santa Catarina Association of Educational Foundations (Acafe). The visit was sponsored by the Santa Catarina government, interested in expanding the mechanisms of cooperation between the state, universities, and the private sector to promote development.At UFSC, the Prorectorate for Research and Innovation (PROPESQ) and the Office of International Relations (SINTER) had previously opened a Call No. 1/2022 – PROPESQ/SINTER – International Cooperation with Japan and Singapore for UFSC professors and administrative staff who cooperate or were interested in developing scientific cooperation with university and research institutions in Japan and/or Singapore. The call, which aimed to instruct UFSC representation in the “Japan and Singapore 2022 Mission”, of the Santa Catarina Program for the Internationalization of Science, Technology and Innovation (CTI) (Fapesc Call no. 34/2022), opened between 10 and 26 November, had the participation of leaders of 22 Higher Education Institutions in Santa Catarina. The mission involved visits to higher education institutions in Japan and Singapore, as well as meetings with the education authorities from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (Monbu-kagakushõ) and the Ministry of Education of Singapore/MOE.
