UFSC holds public hearing for Institutional Development Plan 2025-2029 and promotes discussion group on internationalization of higher education
On 4 September, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) took another important step in preparing its Institutional Development Plan (PDI) for the period 2025-2029. The Office of International Relations (SINTER) promoted a public hearing to discuss the strategic institutional objectives related to the internationalization of UFSC.
The hearing took place in the School of Philosophy and Human Sciences (CFH) Building F Auditorium and was attended by members of “great SINTER”, including UFSC internationalization agents, members of the “SINTEGRA: International Student Trajectories: support and Integration” project; participants of the Institute for Studies on China (ICHIN), and members of the international community at UFSC, totaling an audience of nearly 25 people, in addition to those watching the online streaming.
The event highlighted the importance of collaboratively defining strategic objectives for internationalization, gathering valuable input from students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders. Throughout September, SINTER’s executive technical group will synthesize the contributions collected during the hearing, which will then be forwarded to the management group. The next phase will involve defining strategic actions and key indicators for internationalization.
For the Director of International Relations and manager of SINTER’s Executive Technical Group, Dr. Fernanda Leal, “this collective construction is important because it allows internationalization to develop from a democratic and comprehensive perspective, addressing the diversity of contexts, social groups, cultures, and interests present at our University.”
According to Leal, the executive technical group was created with this purpose in mind and, for the first time, includes members of the international community in its structure: the president of the Association of Angolans in Florianópolis, Nataniel Cassoma Kuanza (as external representative), and the Timorese student Miranda Goretti Soares (as graduate student representative). The group – also composed of Ana Paula Mota (undergraduate student representative); Bruno Wanderley Farias (planning agent); Enio Snoeijer (graduate student representative); Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho (faculty representative) and Rafaela Céspedes (staff representative) – is leading each stage of the PDI construction process according to the management group’s directives, with one of its core missions being the consolidation of internationalization as a comprehensive strategy at UFSC.
Following the public hearing, the participants were invited to join a discussion group entitled “Management of Internationalization: Experiences of the Polytechnic University of Coimbra and UFSC”, which featured as guest speaker Prof. Maria João Pinto Cardoso, Pro-President for International Relations at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, Portugal, and included the participation of Dr. Luciane Stallivieri and the Director of International Relations at UFSC, Dr. Fernanda Leal.
