UFSC is among the top universities in Brazil, according to the QS World University Rankings 2026

The QS World University Rankings 2026, released on 19 June by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), evaluated 1,501 higher education institutions across 106 countries and territories. Among the 32 Brazilian universities featured, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) maintains its position as one of the leading higher education institutions in Brazil and the world.

In the 2026 edition, UFSC is ranked in the 801-850 range globally. Nationally, it is recognized as the 8th best university in Brazil, reinforcing its academic excellence and its ongoing commitment to high-quality teaching, research, and internationalization.

About the QS World University Rankings

The QS Rankings are among the most respected and widely consulted university rankings in the world. The methodology combines indicators that assess academic reputation, employability, and key aspects such as internationalization, sustainability and research impact.

In the 2026 edition, the following criteria were used:

  • Academic reputation (30%) – based on a global survey of academics;
  • Employer Reputation (15%) – measures the job market’s perception of the institution’s graduates;
  • Faculty Student Ratio (10%) – evaluates teaching capacity;
  • Citations per Faculty (20%) – measures the impact of scientific research;
  • International Research Network (5%) – measures international collaboration in research;
  • Sustainability (5%) – evaluates institutional efforts related to social and environmental sustainability;
  • Employment Outcomes (5%) – considers the impact and success of graduates;
  • International Faculty Ratio (5%) and International Student Ratio (5%) – reflect the ability to attract global talent and foster an international academic environment.
