SINTER receives visit from Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Ireland
On 25 July, the Director of International Relations, Fernanda Leal, and the International Agreements Coordinator, Amanda Drehmer, received a visit from Holly Cowman, Director of International Engagement at the Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Ireland. The purpose of the visit was to discuss possibilities for cooperation between UFSC and MIC, especially in the areas of education/teaching and linguistics, including activities to be developed jointly with the Institutional Center for Languages and Translation (NILT/SINTER) and participation in Erasmus projects. The next step to begin the cooperation will be the execution of an international agreement between the institutions, which will enable the implementation of joint actions.

The Office of International Relations (SINTER) has created a mailing list to disseminate international opportunities for students, faculty and staff at UFSC.
The opportunities will continue to be posted on our website and social media. The creation of the mailing list is a complementary action that aims to guarantee that our interested university community members receive reminders of international opportunities and do not miss any chances.

Applications for The Languages of Science course close this week
Applications for the international course “The Languages of Science” are open until 6 p.m. on 26 July 2022. Created in 2021, this is a partnership between the Imagine Project at UFSC and the Collège Sciences et Technologies at the Université de Bordeaux, France.The elective and interdisciplinary course is offered through Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), an approach to teaching and learning between international partner institutions, in which the course is taught simultaneously in both countries. The classrooms of the two universities are connected online and participants can interact in real time, building up a creative, international, intercultural and innovative environment.
The course will be taught in English between 13 September and 6 December 2022. Read the Call for Applications no. 12 SINTER 2022 thoroughly and participate!

Applications extended for the SINTER Study Buddy Program
Students at UFSC can still apply for the Study Buddy Program, intended for undergraduate exchange students who will arrive at the University for the 2022.2 semester.
The Study Buddy Program is a volunteer program in which UFSC students give guidance and assistance to incoming exchange students on how to proceed in their first days in Florianópolis and at UFSC. In return, it provides our regular students the opportunity to get in contact with students from foreign universities and cultures from all over the world.
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to start your exchange experience. You will practice another language, get to know other cultures and make foreign friends at UFSC!

UFSC is ranked 6th best university in Latin America University Rankings 2022
The Times Higher Education (THE) has just published the Latin America University Rankings, listing the best universities in the Latin America and Caribbean region.In this 2022 edition, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) is ranked 6th.
Among the best universities in Latin America, UFSC is the second-best Brazilian federal institution, standing out in the knowledge transfer, research and teaching performance indicators.
The Times Higher Education (THE) is a British magazine that publishes news and articles related to higher education, affiliated to The Times newspaper.
Universities are evaluated based on 13 performance indicators, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Director of SINTER participates in round table in the 28th Brazilian Congress of Graduate Students (CNPG)
The Director of International Relations at UFSC, Dr. Fernanda Leal, participated in the round table “Internacionalização da pós-graduação brasileira: a relevância dos acordos Sul-Sul” [Brazilian Graduate Internationalization: the relevance of South-South agreements], on 6 July, together with the ambassador Irene Vida Gala and the graduate student Eliza Feres. The table is part of the local stage of the 28th Brazilian Congress of Graduate Students (Congresso de Nacional de Pós-Graduandos – CNPG), promoted by the Brazilian Association of Graduate Students (Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduandos – ANPG), which took place at the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF).
The participation of the Director of SINTER in the event endorses the concept of internationalization that UFSC seeks to deepen, which is: internationalization as an instrument of international solidarity and academic excellence, through multilateralism and multilingualism.
