  • Workshop: “W.I.L.D. Teaching: Making Your Classroom Come Alive”

    The Office of International Relations (SINTER) and the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) are promoting once again an English course for UFSC faculty as a way to stimulate English as a Medium of Instruction – EMI, one of the tools for university internalization.

    This time, Leslie Goldstein and Brian Burke will be the lecturers of the workshop whose theme is “W.I.L.D. Teaching: Making Your Classroom Come Alive”.

    The workshop will be lectured completely in English and will take place on 15, 22 and 29 July, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. On 22 of July, it will be streamed online to enable faculty members from all UFSC campuses to participate. Therefore, on this date, the workshop will take place at the Harry Laus room in the University Library. More information regarding the streaming will be sent to the participants by e-mail.

    On 15 and 29 of July, the event will happen solely on campus, at the SINTER Language and Translation Center, located at the Rectorate Building II, ground floor, room 4 (Avenida Desembargador Vitor Lima, 222 – Trindade).

  • UFSC is placed 101-150th in the Golden Age University Rankings 2019

    The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) was ranked 101-150th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Golden Age University Rankings 2019, for universities established between 1945 and 1967 that are characterized by rapid university expansion and increasing investment in research. Universities in this category make up a unique group of higher education institutions that have incorporated innovative academic practices but are less than 100 years old. In the 2019 edition, 271 institutions were included. UFSC appears as the second best qualified Brazilian university.

  • Applications open for USAC Study Buddy Program – Summer Session II

    Applications are open for the USAC Study Buddy Program. USAC – University Studies Abroad Consortium – is a non-profit, university-based organization that has as one of its purposes to offer English learning opportunities for UFSC’s academic community. The Study Buddy Program is an initiative for UFSC students to get to know students from other countries and cultures and improve their English through practice.

    At first, USAC will promote a few integration events, and, later, the UFSC student will keep in touch with his/her study buddy. If you are a student interested in participating in the program for the Summer Session II (July – August 2019), keep in mind that you will need to:

  • UFSC rises in ranking of the top universities in the world

    The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) is among the 1001 best universities in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings 2020. In the 2019 ranking, the institution was placed in the 751-1000 range. This year, it was ranked in the 701-750 range, meaning a variation of up to 50 positions. The ranking is elaborated every year by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specializing in education that uses data collection and analysis methods resulting from surveys of more than 45,000 employers and 94,000 experts worldwide.

  • Registrations open for the free Languages Without Borders (IsF) English courses

    UFSC students, faculty and staff may register for nine free English courses offered by the Idiomas sem Fronteiras [Languages ​​Without Borders] (IsF) program at UFSC. Classes start on 1-2 July and end on 22-25 July 2019. Course duration is 16 class hours and a certificate of participation is given by the end of the course.

  • “The New Silk Road: Brazilian and Chinese Perspectives” event takes place in June at UFSC

    The Graduate Programs in International Relations (PPGRI/UFSC) and in Political Sociology (PPGSP/UFSC), with the support of the Office of International Relations (SINTER) and the Prorectorate for Outreach and Extension (PROEX), promote and invite the academic community to participate in the “The New Silk Road: Brazilian and Chinese Perspectives” event to be held on 27 and 28 June in the auditorium of the School of Socio-Economic Sciences (CSE).

    The schedule includes lectures, round tables and presentations by students and faculty, aiming to exchange knowledge about Brazil-China relations. The theme, Silk Road, has been intensely publicized in the international press and is a hot topic to be discussed in the academic circles.

    The event will have the participation of Professor Miao Ji from the Institute of Asian Studies, Trilateral Cooperation Studies Center, China Foreign Affairs University, as well as of Brazilian specialists on Sino-Brazilian relations.

  • 2019.2 MRE Merit Scholarship for PEC-G students – Applications from 18/06/2019 to 14/07/2019

    Applications for the 2019.2 MRE Merit Scholarship are open from 18 June 2019 to 14 July 2019. The scholarship is destined for students of the PEC-G Programs at UFSC who have completed at least 2 semesters of study.

    Offered by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), the Merit Scholarship consists of a monthly financial assistance of R$ 622.00 for six months.
