Culture in focus in German texts: a translation project
The Institutional Center for Languages and Translation (NILT/SINTER) has launched the course “Culture in focus in German texts: a translation project” targeted at the UFSC community. Registrations are open from 7 to 22 November 2022, on this link.The course aims to develop a translation project based on functionalist approach to translation. The aim is for participants to perceive the cultural aspects within different textual genres in German, as well as to recognize the essential factors of the functionalist approach to translation, which is the focus of the project. As an outcome, participants are expected to feel capable of developing a translation project based on the textual analysis model for translation.
The synchronous classes will take place online, via Google Meet, from 23 November to 14 December, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesdays. The course totals 16 hours and has 20 places. Scholarship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students through the 2022 NOREC Mobility Program (Norway)
The Office of International Relations (SINTER) announces that applications are open for undergraduate and graduate students to apply for an exchange opportunity in Norway.Students enrolled in the following programs at UFSC may apply:
Undergraduate programs: Agriculture, Aquaculture Engineering, Animal Science, Biology, Nutrition and Food Science and Technology;
Graduate programs: Plant Genetic Resources, Agroecosystems, Aquaculture and Food Science.
Applications are open between 25 and 31 October 2022.

Extension of trial period access to SciVal (Elsevier) Platform at UFSC
The free trial access to the SciVal (Elsevier) Platform, which has begun on 3 October, was extended until 25 November. The aim is to evaluate the possibilities and relevance of obtaining access to the Platform for UFSC. The participation of everyone is essential to guide the decision, as hiring Elsevier’s services will depend on the positive evaluation from the university community. PROPG announces Call for Applications for students from Timor-Leste
The Prorectorate for Graduate Studies (PROPG) announces that applications are open for the Internationalization and Human Resources Training Program within the cooperation between the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Timor-Leste Human Capital Development Fund (FDCH – Timor-Leste). The deadline is 30 October 2022.
The Internationalization and Human Resources Training Program aims to stimulate internationalization actions at UFSC, offering places in Master’s and Doctoral programs for Timorese students and contributing to qualified human resources training in Timor-Leste.

UFSC signs cooperation agreement with Mozambique for digital certificate implementation in the country

On 17 October, the Rector of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Irineu Manoel de Souza, received in his office representatives of the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC) in Mozambique to sign a technical cooperation agreement for the implementation of a digital certificate infrastructure in the African country. The Vice-Rector of UFSC, Joana Célia dos Passos, and the Director of International Relations, Fernanda Leal, participated in the signing ceremony at the Rector’s Office.
The meeting was also attended by Prof. Lourino Chemane, president of the Board of Directors of INTIC; Laisse Mucavele, Director of the Certificate and License Division; Sérgio Guivala, Head of the Cybernetics Security Department; Abrão Nhaca, Head of the License Department; Narbal Silva, Executive Director of the Prorectorate for Outreach and Extension at UFSC; Frederico Schardong, lecturer at the Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) and doctoral student in Computer Science at UFSC; Lucas Mayer, master’s student in Computer Science at UFSC; and Ricardo Felipe Custódio, supervisor of the Computer Security Laboratory (LabSEC) at UFSC.
The agreement signed between UFSC, through the Computer Security Laboratory (LabSEC/UFSC), the Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS), and the INTIC, which is the body responsible for the regulation, supervision, and inspection of information and communication technologies in Mozambique, aims at establishing a partnership to assist the Mozambican institute in the specification and implementation of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in Mozambique (PKI-MZ), cooperating in the creation of a governance policy for technology management, as well as carrying out qualification and training actions for the continuing education of technicians in charge of the operation, implementation and maintenance of the solutions to be developed.
