On 17 October, the Rector of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Irineu Manoel de Souza, received in his office representatives of the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC) in Mozambique to sign a technical cooperation agreement for the implementation of a digital certificate infrastructure in the African country. The Vice-Rector of UFSC, Joana Célia dos Passos, and the Director of International Relations, Fernanda Leal, participated in the signing ceremony at the Rector’s Office.

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Lourino Chemane, president of the Board of Directors of INTIC; Laisse Mucavele, Director of the Certificate and License Division; Sérgio Guivala, Head of the Cybernetics Security Department; Abrão Nhaca, Head of the License Department; Narbal Silva, Executive Director of the Prorectorate for Outreach and Extension at UFSC; Frederico Schardong, lecturer at the Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) and doctoral student in Computer Science at UFSC; Lucas Mayer, master’s student in Computer Science at UFSC; and Ricardo Felipe Custódio, supervisor of the Computer Security Laboratory (LabSEC) at UFSC.

The agreement signed between UFSC, through the Computer Security Laboratory (LabSEC/UFSC), the Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS), and the INTIC, which is the body responsible for the regulation, supervision, and inspection of information and communication technologies in Mozambique, aims at establishing a partnership to assist the Mozambican institute in the specification and implementation of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in Mozambique (PKI-MZ), cooperating in the creation of a governance policy for technology management, as well as carrying out qualification and training actions for the continuing education of technicians in charge of the operation, implementation and maintenance of the solutions to be developed.

The 2022 FAUBAI Southern Regional Meeting will take place on 17 and 18 November on the Plenarinho [Small Plenary Room] at the Rectorate Building of the Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina (UDESC). This year, the event’s theme is “O Novo Cenário da Internacionalização: mudanças e desafios” [The New Scenario of Internationalization: changes and challenges]. Faculty and staff members at UFSC, including the internationalization agents, can participate.

The Secretary for International Relations at UFSC, Prof. Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho, will introduce the lecture: “O Novo Cenário da Internacionalização: principais mudanças e grandes desafios” [The New Scenario of Internationalization: main changes and major challenges]. The Brazilian Association of International Education (FAUBAI) brings together managers and heads of international relations from more than 200 Brazilian higher education institutions. The association promotes seminars, workshops, regional, national and international meetings, and an Annual Conference, aiming the integration and training of managers.

The International Programs Coordinator at the Office of International Relations (SINTER) announces the final results of the selection process of undergraduate students who applied to the Outgoing Program to go on exchange at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, in Germany, with a scholarship.

UFSC will nominate up to three students to Offenburg, which will make the final selection among the applicants from all institutions participating in the opportunity. According to the analysis made by the German institution, the students nominated by UFSC may be granted the scholarship or not.

Following Call no. 1/2022 PROPESQ/SINTER, which aims to instruct UFSC’s representation in the “2022 Japan and Singapore Mission”, to be held between 10 and 25 November 2022, the Office of International Relations (SINTER) invites all participants of the Call for an online meeting on 25 October (Tuesday), at 3:30 p.m., through this link.

The aim of the meeting is to present an overview of the responses obtained in order to align the mission’s schedule. SINTER expects the attendance of all participants, and it is available to answer any necessary questions.

On 13 and 14 October, the Superintendency of Innovation (SINOVA), with the support of the Office of International Relations (SINTER), received students and faculty members from the School of Exact and Natural Sciences (FACEN) of the National University of Asunción (UNA/Paraguay). The group came to visit the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Florianópolis Innovation Ecosystem. The visitors comprised four faculty members and 30 undergraduate students from the Production Technology and the Logistics and Transport Management programs, who moved around laboratories and research and innovation centers.

Throughout the two days, the group carried out seven different visits. On Thursday (13), SINTER and PROPESQ welcomed the visitors on the UFSC Florianópolis Campus. Still in the morning, they visited the Research Laboratories for Emerging Technologies in Cooling and Thermophysics (POLO) – Unit of the Brazilian Company of Industrial Research and Innovation (EMBRAPII).

After that visit, the group lunched at the University Restaurant and performed a cultural presentation with live music and folk dances on the Praça da Cidadania [Citizenship Square] at UFSC. During the afternoon, the group visited the Prototyping and New 3D Technologies Laboratory (PRONTO 3D) and the CoCreation Lab Campeche.

On Friday (14), the group carried out a technical visit to the Innovation Center of the Associação Catarinense de Tecnologia [Catarinense Technology Association] (CIA ACATE Primavera).  Before the lunch break, they watched a presentation of the Living Lab Florianópolis in the LinkLab space.

During the afternoon, students and professors visited the Centro Empresarial para Laboração de Tecnologias Avançadas [Business Center for Advanced Technologies] (CELTA) incubator of the Certi Foundation. The last visit was to the Solar Energy Research and Training Center at UFSC (Fotovoltaica UFSC) in the Sapiens Park.

The institutional visit had as its main interests the knowledge of the innovation ecosystem, technology and entrepreneurship, transport management and logistical planning. For the faculty member and coordinator of the Logistics and Transport Management program, Prof. Mirtha León, the experience served to encourage research in the programs. “This openness helps us to relate and compare what we already have and what we can improve. The students come back with a more open mind and with a different motivation”, says León. Prof. José Román also thanked the reception and highlighted the interest in developing partnerships between the educational institutions. “We are very excited, motivated, and we think that, in the near future, we could carry out work projects together.”
