UFSC is one of the world’s top universities for the study of 13 subjects, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022
QS Quacquarelli Symonds has released the 12th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject: an independent comparative analysis on the performance of 1543 institutions across 51 academic disciplines, grouped into 5 broad subject areas – Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences & Management.In this edition, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) was ranked in 3 out of the 5 broad subject areas: Engineering & Technology, Arts & Humanities, and Life Sciences & Medicine. Engineering & Technology is the institution’s strongest field at rank 401-450, with an overall score of 64.0.
According to the QS ranking, UFSC is one of the world’s top universities for the study of 13 subjects. The university’s best performance was in Architecture / Built Environment; Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing; and Agriculture & Forestry.

Erasmus+ Sapienza Università di Roma Undergraduate Mobility Program ‒ Preliminary Results of UFSC’s Pre-Selection
The Office of International Relations (SINTER) announces the preliminary results of the pre-selection for the Erasmus + UFSC – Sapienza Undergraduate Mobility Program, according to the Call for Applications no. 4 SINTER 2022.

There are no places reserved for UFSC students in this selection process. The final decision will rest exclusively with the Sapienza Università di Roma.
Applicants who wish to appeal against the results of the pre-selection may do so on 7 April 2022 until 11:59 p.m. The appeal must be sent, exclusively, by e-mail to programas.sinter@contato.ufsc.br. The subject of the email must be SAPIENZA STUDENT APPEAL + APPLICANT’S FIRST AND LAST NAME (e.g., SAPIENZA STUDENT APPEAL ANA SILVA). Appeals that are not submitted in this format, or are submitted after the deadline, will not be considered.

Phase 3: SINTER resumes full in-person work
The Office of International Relations (SINTER), like the other administrative and academic units at UFSC, has returned to fully in-person work.Our office is open from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. We are located on the first floor of the Rectorate Building II, at Av. Desembargador Vitor Lima, 222, Florianópolis.
Please note that the use of face masks is mandatory in all on-campus indoor settings, according to the instructions contained in the Circular Letter No. 9/2022/GR.
The return to in-person activities at SINTER follows the guidelines of Phase 3 for combating the COVID-19 pandemic at UFSC and it was set after a careful study of the physical space, the number of staff members and the health standards. The office environment has also been adapted: there are hand sanitizers (70% alcohol) available for all users; instructive posters on the walls; physical distancing between desks; and the services to the public are being carried out exclusively at the front desk to limit the number of people inside the office.

UFSC hosts the Study in Europe Road Show 2022
The Study in Europe Road Show 2022 brings together representatives of study abroad funding agencies in France (Campus France), Germany (DAAD), Switzerland (Swissnex) and Belgium (WBI) to present scholarship and funding opportunities in Europe for undergraduate and graduate students.A series of informative lectures and talks with the agencies will be held on 29 April at UFSC, and the representatives will also be available to meet the public. The event is an opportunity to clear doubts and learn about scholarship programs in Europe. The location and full schedule will be announced soon.

Exchange scholarship for undergraduate students at Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten (Germany)
The Office of International Relations (SINTER) informs that applications are open for scholarships at the Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten (Germany) for undergraduate students wishing to go on exchange from April 2023.
Applications must be sent between 28 March and 7 April 2022.

SINTER takes part in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo – AUGM

Representatives of the member universities at the Reunión del Grupo de Delegados Asesores of AUGM
The Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo [Association of Montevideo Group Universities] (AUGM) celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, marking three decades as a network of public, autonomous and self-governing universities in the region.
The celebration was attended by representatives of the member universities, who participated of an agenda of activities that took place on 8, 9, 10 and 11 March 2022.
The Group of Advisory Delegates from AUGM had its first post-pandemic in-person meeting. The Reunión del Grupo de Delegados Asesores took place on 8 and 9 March at the Universidad de La República in Montevideo, Uruguay, as part of the commemorative activities for the 30th anniversary of the Association.
The Secretary for International Relations at UFSC, Lincoln Fernandes, attended the session of Advisory Delegates, which had, among the subjects, the definition of places for academic mobility of students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty and staff.

Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL) Course: aspects of academic writing in Brazilian Portuguese
The Institutional Center for Languages and Translation (NILT/SINTER) launched the Portuguese as a foreign language course “Aspects of academic writing in Brazilian Portuguese: abstract, review and scientific article”. Registrations are open from 15 to 31 March 2022 and classes will take place from 18 April to 7 May.The course is being offered to foreign or Brazilians students, researchers and professors who may need an introduction to academic written production in Brazilian Portuguese. The aim is to enable the participants to produce quality academic papers in Brazilian Portuguese, providing them with formal, linguistic and argumentative elements necessary for the writing process.
Course content:
- Academic genres: abstract, review, article.
- General characteristics of academic writing: conciseness, clarity, objectivity, impersonality.
- Strategies to maintain impersonality in academic writing.
- Textual cohesion and coherence: connectors, modals and anaphoric reference.
- Academic article and its structure: form and content aspects.
