SINTER launches a pilot project for the translation of academic documents for outgoing students
The Office of International Relations (SINTER), through the Translation Service, launched the Pilot Project for the translation of academic documents of undergraduate students applying for the International Exchange Program, Call for Applications no. 2/2022/SINTER, in the second semester of 2022.
The initiative meets the proposal of internationalization at UFSC, presented in the 2020-2024 Institutional Development Plan (PDI), and aims at attending part of the institution’s demand for the translation of academic documents.
Initially, the Pilot Project will assist undergraduate students that will undertake academic mobility through the International Exchange Program (Outgoing). The Translation Service will translate into English the Certificate of Enrollment and the Summary Undergraduate Transcript of Records (issued by CAGR), which are the documents frequently requested by foreign institutions. Later one, the idea is to expand the proposal as well as the public that will be assisted by the project.
To have the documents translated, the students must send the updated documents, in Portuguese, along with the proof of application provided by UFSC’s online application system, to the e-mail traducao.sinter@contato.ufsc.br. The Translation Service will send the translated documents back to the students within 5 working days.

SINTER staff members attend AUGM training
On 11 August, staff members of the Office of International Relations (SINTER) participated in the workshop “Taller de Capacitación para Gestoras y Gestores de Programas ESCALA de AUGM” [Training Workshop for Administrators of AUGM ESCALA Programs]. The ESCALA Programs promote academic mobility of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and administrative staff members, aiming to create a widened academic network between the 41 public universities that are members of the Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo [Association of Montevideo Group Universities] (AUGM) in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Peru.All the ESCALA Programs are reciprocal and encompass assistance during mobility. The AUGM calls for 2023 and SINTER’s Call for Applications will be announced from September on. Also in September, SINTER will promote a seminar to inform the university community about those opportunities for international mobility.

Check out the schedule for the International Students Welcome Session
On 22 August, the Office of International Relations (SINTER) will hold a Welcome Session for the international students, who will attend the second academic semester of 2022 at UFSC. The event will take place at the Rectorate Building (I) Auditorium, on the Campus Trindade in Florianópolis, at 2:30 p.m. The university will welcome 122 international students next semester. In addition to the welcome speeches, the session will include important information about UFSC for the newcomers and cultural activities.
This year, the event aims to extend the reception to the entire international community at UFSC. Thus, in addition to the international students in mobility at UFSC, the welcome session is also targeted at all regular international students, including the participants of specific programs coordinated by SINTER (such as the Escala Estudiantes de Grado and Escala Estudiantes de Posgrado of the Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo [Association of Montevideo Group Universities] (AUGM) and the Programa Estudante-Convênio de Graduação (PEC-G).

UFSC is awarded in QS Rankings event
On 22 and 23 September, the QS Higher Ed Summit: Americas 2022 will take place in Vila Velha, Espirito Santo. The congress will announce the official Latin American University Rankings 2023 and will award institutions from the entire continent in the following categories:- Reputation Impact
- Research Excellence
- New Entrant
- Top 10
- Recognition of Improvement
The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) will be awarded in the Research Excellence category and will be represented by the acting Prorector for Research, Prof. William Gerson Matias. The conference will gather higher education leaders and experts to discuss the “Mission-led Universities: elevating higher ed in the Americas”. The event will feature debates, lectures, panel discussions and case studies, in addition to the opportunity to network with the international higher education community and build strategic partnerships.
In the QS World University Rankings 2023, UFSC was ranked for the eleventh consecutive time and placed among the thousand best universities in the world. The ranking is produced annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specialized in education. The methodology is based on several criteria, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Student Ratio.

Professor Raumar Rodríguez Gímenez from the Universidad de La República visits UFSC
Raumar Rodríguez Gímenez, professor and researcher at Universidad de La República (Udelar), in Uruguay, is currently visiting UFSC through the Escala Docente Program from the Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo [Association of Montevideo Group Universities] (AUGM). The professor, who graduated from the Doctoral Program in Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Sciences (PPGICH-CFH) a few years ago, came back to UFSC to hold a seminar entitled “Las ciencias humanas y el descubrimiento del inconsciente” [The Human Sciences and the discovery of the unconscious]. In addition, Professor Gímenez gave a lecture and has been developing several activities in collaboration with colleagues and graduate students on the development of their theses. Professor Alexandre Fernandez Vaz is his host at UFSC and, jointly, they have been discussing strategies to increase the collaboration between Udelar and UFSC, especially concerning research and teaching.

Registration for faculty members interested in joining the FAUBAI-FARA Program
The Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI) announces the FAUBAI-FARA Scholarship Program, offering scholarships for African students and researchers in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The program is organized in partnership with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). A total of 500 scholarships will be offered for students and researchers in HEIs associated with FAUBAI, in the following levels/categories: Master’s Degree; Doctoral Degree; Sandwich Doctoral Program; and Postdoctoral Research.
To be eligible, the HEI must:
- Offer the whole education in English:
- communication with the applicants in English;
- graduate programs with information in English (websites and other documents);
- possibility of writing and presenting the dissertation and thesis in English;
- possibility of completing all the required credits in English (institutions may share programs, enabling students to obtain credits in programs offered in-person or online by other institutions).
UFSC faculty interested in receiving African master’s students, doctoral students, sandwich doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers through the FAUBAI-FARA Program must:
- Fill in the FAUBAI registration form;
- Send an email to sinter@contato.ufsc.br with the subject: “FAUBAIFARA – initials of the Graduate Program – name of the faculty member”, containing the following information:
- full name;
- email;
- name of the Graduate Program;
- number of places offered for Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree, Sandwich Doctoral Program and Postdoctoral Research.
The due date to express interest is 30 August 2022.

SINTER welcomes representatives from Québec Office in São Paulo
The Office of International Relations (SINTER) welcomed the Québec Office in São Paulo, last Friday, 5 August, to discuss possibilities for cooperation between UFSC, higher education institutions and the Quebec industry. The meeting was attended by Prof. Telles Lazzarin from the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering, Prof. Philippe Jean Paul Gleize from the Graduate Program in Civil Engineering and Prof. Amir Antonio Martins de Oliveira from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
