On Thursday, 3 April, the Rector of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Professor Irineu Manoel de Souza, the Head of the Rector’s Office, Professor Bernardo Meyer, and the Secretary for International Relations, Professor Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho, welcomed the Consul General of Germany, Marc Oliver Bogdahn, for an official visit to the UFSC Florianópolis campus.
The main focus of the meeting was academic cooperation between Brazil and Germany – particularly between Santa Catarina and German institutions – and the prospect of further strengthening scientific and university partnerships.
During the meeting, the consul was presented with current data on cooperation between UFSC and German institutions. UFSC currently maintains 39 cooperation agreements with universities in Germany. Academic mobility was also highlighted: in 2023, UFSC welcomed 23 German students and sent 28 Brazilian students to German univerisites. In 2024, the numbers include 6 German students at UFSC and 10 UFSC students in Germany.
Consul General Marc Oliver Bogdahn expressed interest in deepening ties with institutions in Santa Catarina, including UFSC. He also informed that the German Consulate in Porto Alegre is now responsible for the state of Santa Catarina, in addition to the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In this context, the participants discussed potential avenues for future collaboration between UFSC and German institutions.
The meeting reinforces UFSC’s commitment to university internationalization and the development of strategic partnerships with German institutions.
