On Thursday, 3 April, the Rector of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Professor Irineu Manoel de Souza, the Head of the Rector’s Office, Professor Bernardo Meyer, and the Secretary for International Relations, Professor Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho, welcomed the Consul General of Germany, Marc Oliver Bogdahn, for an official visit to the UFSC Florianópolis campus.

The main focus of the meeting was academic cooperation between Brazil and Germany – particularly between Santa Catarina and German institutions – and the prospect of further strengthening scientific and university partnerships.

During the meeting, the consul was presented with current data on cooperation between UFSC and German institutions. UFSC currently maintains 39 cooperation agreements with universities in Germany. Academic mobility was also highlighted: in 2023, UFSC welcomed 23 German students and sent 28 Brazilian students to German univerisites. In 2024, the numbers include 6 German students at UFSC and 10 UFSC students in Germany.

Consul General Marc Oliver Bogdahn expressed interest in deepening ties with institutions in Santa Catarina, including UFSC. He also informed that the German Consulate in Porto Alegre is now responsible for the state of Santa Catarina, in addition to the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In this context, the participants discussed potential avenues for future collaboration between UFSC and German institutions.

The meeting reinforces UFSC’s commitment to university internationalization and the development of strategic partnerships with German institutions.

12:16:05

The Office of International Relations (SINTER) at UFSC informs the university community that:

  • The website oportunidadesinternacionais.ufsc.br is the official channel used to share international opportunities not managed by SINTER – that is, opportunities whose application procedures and selection processes are carried out independently of UFSC. The opportunities published on this website are promoted by national and international institutions, with or without cooperation agreements with UFSC, and they are evaluated by SINTER prior to publication. The purpose of this website is to provide UFSC students, faculty and staff with access to currently available international opportunities, including scholarships, summer and winter schools, events abroad, and other opportunities we receive by email. Our office does not provide additional information about these opportunities and does not mediate communication between the UFSC community and the promoting institutions.
  • The website sinter.ufsc.br is the official channel for disseminating international opportunities directly managed by SINTER, or that involve our office in at least one stage of the selection process (for example, pre-selection or issuance of a letter of approval). Such opportunities are published on the open calls and courses page, as well as on the news page of our website.
  • Attention: International opportunities sent directly to the university community by external institutions are not the responsibility of SINTER.
