Mandarin courses in special groups for UFSC – Confucius Institute at Unicamp

The Confucius Institute at Unicamp, a body linked to the Chinese Ministry of Education, which seeks to disseminate Chinese language and culture through the agreement between Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) and Unicamp, announces the opening of registrations for Mandarin courses for the second semester of 2024.

Two groups will be offered exclusively to UFSC students, technical-administrative staff and active faculty members:

 

  • Basic Mandarin 1: (0213/126) UFSC  – Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm (Teacher Li) – Online
  • Basic Mandarin 2: (0217/084) UFSC – Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm (teacher Li) – Online

UFSC improves position in international ranking which analyzed more than 1500 universities

The results of this year’s QS World University Rankings 2025, released on Monday, 4 June, show an improvement in the performance of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) compared to last year. In the ranking, UFSC is in the range of positions between 781 and 790. In 2023, the institution was between 801 and 850. The ranking does not specify the exact position of the universities within these ranges.

UFSC celebrates 15 years of partnership with Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e

This week, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) welcomed a delegation of representatives from the Universidade Nacional de Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), an East Timorese institution with which UFSC has had an agreement for over 15 years. During the visit there were meetings and presentations by both institutions, as well as a study into expanding partnerships. A reception has been organized for this Friday, 21 June, to present the entire UFSC structure to the rector and vice-rector of UNTL.

SINTER welcomes visit from Universidad La Rochelle, France

Between 18 and 20 June, Santa Catarina state welcomed representatives from the Université de La Rochelle, France, with which UFSC has an international cooperation agreement.

On this occasion, working meetings were held at the Santa Catarina State Foundation for the Support of Research and Innovation (FAPESC), during which UFSC was represented by its Secretary for International Relations, Prof. Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho.

At UFSC, the visitors from La Rochelle visited the School of Agricultural Sciences (CCA), the School of Biological Sciences (CCB) and the School of Communication and Arts (CCE).

At the CCE, Professor Luciana Rassier, who has a long collaboration history with the French university, organized a meeting attended by fifteen UFSC students.

 

SINTER welcomes visit from Middlebury College, USA

On 24 June, SINTER welcomed a visit from its partner institution, Middlebury College in the United States. The visit was attended by Silvia Lorenso Castro, director of Middlebury College in Brazil, and Sean McIntyre, who will be taking over the position in July.

They were welcomed by Dr. Fernanda Leal, UFSC’s Director of International Relations. On the occasion, they discussed strategies for strengthening the existing partnership between UFSC and Middlebury and expanding interaction between local and international students. In the first semester of 2024, UFSC welcomed five Middlebury students through SINTER’s Incoming exchange program.
