SINTER promotes lecture on University Studies in Spain

On 12 September, the Office of International Relations (SINTER) promoted a lecture with the assessor of the Embassy of Spain’s Education Office in Brasília, Francisco López, who presented general information about the Spanish university system. The main topics covered were the requirements to study in the country, the way scholarships work and the Spanish proficiency certificates.

Applications open for the USAC scholarships 2019

The Resident Director of the Universities Study Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Florianópolis, Renato Carvalho, in the exercise of his powers, and considering the cooperation agreement between USAC Exchange Program and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of UFSC, has published the Call for Applications for the USAC scholarships 2019. Five full scholarships will be offered to Foreign Language and Literature undergraduate students (Licenciatura) and one scholarship will be offered to UFSC administrative staff members.

UFSC rises in ranking of universities worldwide

The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) is the 7th best university in Brazil and the 4th among Brazilian federal universities, according to the THE World University Rankings, a set of rankings elaborated annually and considered one of the most comprehensive, balanced and reliable in the world. For the 2020 edition, 1,396 institutions from 92 different countries were analyzed. In the overall ranking, UFSC was placed in the 601-800 band, meaning a variation up to 200 positions in relation to the 2019 edition, in which the university was placed in the 801-1000 band.

UNESCO Chair “Language Policies for Multilingualism”, headquartered at UFSC, holds second edition of International Seminar at the University of Macau

The II International Seminar of the UNESCO Chair “Language Policies for Multilingualism” will take place on 25, 26 and 27 September 2019 in the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre at the University of Macau, China. The theme of this year’s seminar is “Multilingualism in Greater China, Asia and beyond: Policies, Mobility and Transculturality“.

Headquartered at UFSC and coordinated by Professor Gilvan Müller de Oliveira, from the School of Communication and Arts (CCE), the Chair was established on 5 February 2018 and aims to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation on global understanding for sustainability, as well as to facilitate collaboration between high-level, internationally-recognized researchers and teaching staff of the University and other institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.

In this year’s edition, the seminar aims to promote the dissemination of research and exchange of ideas around the following topics (not limited to): Language education; Language acquisition; Language policy; Languages in contact; Migration and mobility; Globalization and super-diversity; Multilingualism and multiculturalism; Transcultural relations; and Technology and linguistics inclusion.

ABOUT THE UNESCO CHAIR ON LANGUAGE POLICIES FOR MULTILINGUALISM HEADQUARTERED IN UFSC

Specific Objectives: undertake research jointly with partners on the relationship between sustainable development and culture, linguistic and cultural diversity, and multilingualism, and disseminate results widely notably through conferences, seminars and publications; contribute to the elaboration of policies concerning the preservation and development of multilingualism as a prerequisite for sustainable development at community and national levels; promote linguistic education and the preservation of linguistic diversity, bilingual and multilingual education, including online education, as well as social inclusion through language education; create a research network of universities, institutes and other relevant organizations, and promote joint research and training, visiting professors and the exchange of faculty, researchers and students; collaborate closely with UNESCO and existing UNESCO Chairs on relevant programs and activities.

SINTER promotes lecture about University Studies in Spain

On 12 September, Thursday, Francisco M. López, the assessor of the Embassy of Spain’s Education Office in Brasília, will be at UFSC to present study opportunities in Spain. The lecture will approach topics such as the Spanish university system, scholarships, steps to study in the country and Spanish proficiency certificates. The students will also be able to ask questions. The event will take place at the Harry Laus Room in the Central Library on the Trindade Campus.
