UFSC welcomes representatives from the Catholic University of Temuco (UCT), Chile

Friday, 12 September 2025, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) received representatives from the Catholic University of Temuco (UCT) in Chile. UCT and UFSC currently have an agreement covering all areas of common interest and providing for exchange opportunities, signed in January 2024 and valid until January 2029. The agreement is coordinated at UFSC by Professor María del Carmen Cortizo, from the Department of Social Work, who also welcomed the UCT visitors.

The meeting took place at the Rector’s Office and was attended by UFSC Vice-Rector, Prof. Joana Célia dos Passos; Secretary for International Relations, Prof. Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho; Superintendent of Projects at the Prorectorate for Research and Innovation (PROPESQ), Prof. William Gerson Matias; and Dr. Vera Gasparetto, researcher in Gender Studies and member of the Institute of Gender Studies (IEG/UFSC). Representing UCT were Dr. Claudio Inostroza Blancheteau, Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies, and Dr. Natalia Cárdenas Marín, Directir of the Center for Gender Studies.

SINTER Receives Visit from the Founder and Executive Secretary General of the Global Rectoral Board Community

On 1 July 2025, the Office of International Relations (SINTER) at UFSC welcomed Prof. Luciano Rodrigues Marcelino, founder and Executive Secretary General of the Global Rectoral Board Community. He was received by the Director of International Relations, Dr. Fernanda Leal.

The institutional visit provided a valuable space for dialogue on strategic opportunities for international cooperation, academic innovation, and the institutional strengthening of UFSC through engagement with the Rectoral Board community. This global community brings together rectors, chief academic officers, and educational leaders in general, as well as representatives from university networks in 33 countries, committed to transforming higher education.

The meeting included a presentation of the strategic programs developed by Luces Latam Academy – The Corporate University of Higher Education, the executive education branch of the Global Rectoral Board Community. This program aims to support and strengthen the work of Latin American and Caribbean higher education institutions, particularly community and purpose-driven universities.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss best practices in university administration in Latin America and the Caribbean, in dialogue with UFSC’s management team.

UFSC is pre-qualified for membership in the BRICS Network University – BRICS-NU

The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina has been pre-qualified for membership in the BRICS  Network University (BRICS-NU), in accordance with CAPES Call for Accession No. 8/2025. The application process involved the participation of the Office of International Relations (SINTER/UFSC), which supported the university’s candidacy by mapping its existing cooperation with BRICS countries.

Following the signing of the Term of Accession by the Prorector for Graduate Studies, Professor Werner Kraus Junior, UFSC is now eligible to receive a pre-qualification certificate. This will enable the institution to submit proposals in funding calls to be published at a later time.

The BRICS-NU mission is to foster academic, scientific and cultural cooperation among higher education institutions from BRICS member countries. In addition, the network encourages joint projects in the areas of teaching, research and outreach. As part of the pre-qualification process, participating universities were assigned to specific thematic areas. UFSC was pre-qualified in the thematic area of Energy. With this confirmation, UFSC commits to actively participating in the network’s meetings and activities; contributing to the development of joint projects, knowledge exchange and holding of academic events; ensuring that student, faculty and research mobility programs are in line with the network’s rules and regulations; and meeting the deadlines and goals established in the collaborative projects.

Change in SINTER’s in-person service from 3 to 5 June 2025 due to the “UFSC Good Practices in Internationalization Week”

From 2 to 6 June 2025, SINTER will organize the “UFSC Good Practices in Internationalization Week”. Due to the participation of SINTER’s staff and interns in the event, our in-person service will take place at alternative locations on 3, 4 and 5 June.

If you require in-person assistance on those days, please go to the following locations, observing our office hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
