The participation of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in the 1st Brazil-Africa Rectors’ Forum, held in Brasília from 25 to 27 May, generated concrete results for strengthening the institution’s internationalization efforts. During the event, UFSC signed new international cooperation agreements with African universities and expanded opportunities for academic collaboration in teaching, research, outreach, and mobility.
Organized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (Capes), and the National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (Andifes), the forum brought together rectors, university administrators, and representatives from 48 African higher education institutions. The event aimed to expand international partnerships, promote academic mobility programs, and strengthen cooperation between Brazilian and African universities.
Representing UFSC at the forum were Rector Professor Irineu Manoel de Souza and the Director of International Relations, Guilherme Carlos da Costa. On the first day of the event, they held meetings with representatives of the Universidade de Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) and the Universidade Católica da Guiné-Bissau (UCGB), resulting in the signing of cooperation agreements with both institutions.

On 19 June, the Univesidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) welcomed a delegation from Nankai University, China, for the signing ceremony of a new cooperation agreement between the two institutions.

At the end of the lecture, an Erasmus agreement was formally signed between the two institutions. Prof. Cardoso represented the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, while UFSC was represented by Prof. Machado Filho.
