SINTER holds welcome session for international students

The Office of International Relations (SINTER) held a Welcome Session, on 22 August, for international students arriving at UFSC for the second semester of 2022. The session took place at the Rectorate Building Auditorium, on the Trindade Campus, in Florianópolis. The event aimed to broaden the reception to the entire international student community at UFSC. Thus, in addition to the exchange students, the event was also targeted at all degree-seeking international students on campus.

University of Birmingham promotes event in partnership with UFSC

UoB-UFSC Poster PAUL-MARIA ESTERThe University of Birmingham (UoB) and UFSC promote a series of lectures to discuss topics in the area of Language and Literary Studies.

The first event includes a lecture by UoB and another by UFSC, focusing on the theme of academic literacy. It will be held online on 30 November, at 10 am Brasília time.

The lecture “Advanced academic literacy skills in the context of UK Higher Education: writing with authority” will be given by Dr. Paul Thompson of UoB. PhD Dr. Maria Ester W. Moritz, from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at UFSC, presents the topic “An exploration of research on academic literacies in higher education in the Latin America context”. The moderators will be UFSC professors Gisele Orgado and Rosane Silveira.

UNESCO Chair “Language Policies for Multilingualism”, headquartered at UFSC, holds second edition of International Seminar at the University of Macau

The II International Seminar of the UNESCO Chair “Language Policies for Multilingualism” will take place on 25, 26 and 27 September 2019 in the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre at the University of Macau, China. The theme of this year’s seminar is “Multilingualism in Greater China, Asia and beyond: Policies, Mobility and Transculturality“.

Headquartered at UFSC and coordinated by Professor Gilvan Müller de Oliveira, from the School of Communication and Arts (CCE), the Chair was established on 5 February 2018 and aims to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation on global understanding for sustainability, as well as to facilitate collaboration between high-level, internationally-recognized researchers and teaching staff of the University and other institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.

In this year’s edition, the seminar aims to promote the dissemination of research and exchange of ideas around the following topics (not limited to): Language education; Language acquisition; Language policy; Languages in contact; Migration and mobility; Globalization and super-diversity; Multilingualism and multiculturalism; Transcultural relations; and Technology and linguistics inclusion.

ABOUT THE UNESCO CHAIR ON LANGUAGE POLICIES FOR MULTILINGUALISM HEADQUARTERED IN UFSC

Specific Objectives: undertake research jointly with partners on the relationship between sustainable development and culture, linguistic and cultural diversity, and multilingualism, and disseminate results widely notably through conferences, seminars and publications; contribute to the elaboration of policies concerning the preservation and development of multilingualism as a prerequisite for sustainable development at community and national levels; promote linguistic education and the preservation of linguistic diversity, bilingual and multilingual education, including online education, as well as social inclusion through language education; create a research network of universities, institutes and other relevant organizations, and promote joint research and training, visiting professors and the exchange of faculty, researchers and students; collaborate closely with UNESCO and existing UNESCO Chairs on relevant programs and activities.

IV AUGM Congress for University Outreach is accepting paper submissions

The IV Congress for University Outreach of the Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo (AUGM) will take place on 4, 5 and 6 November,  in Chile. With the theme “Universidades comprometidas com o futuro da América Latina” [Universities committed to the future of Latin America], the Congress is accepting paper submissions until 15 June 2019. The event is organized by four member universities of AUGM (Universidad de Playa Ancha, Universidad de Valparaíso, Universidad de Santiago de Chile and Universidad de Chile) and  aims to promote a space for understanding the current state of the region and the role of universities in face of the local challenges.

Lecture about exchange opportunities in France

Last Tuesday (27 March), SINTER received a visit from a representative of Campus France Brasil – a French government agency responsible for promoting higher education – which gave a lecture at the School of Socio-Economic Sciences’ (CSE) auditorium. The presentation covered topics such as the admission application process, the advantages of the French higher education, scholarships available for foreign students, information about the exchange programs and the procedures for applying for a student visa.

The presentation will cover topics such as the admission application process, the advantages of the French higher education, scholarships available for foreign students, information about the exchange programs and the procedures for applying for a student visa.

Lecture on exchange opportunities at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy)

The Office of International Relations (SINTER) invites all the undergraduate students to a lecture about exchange possibilities at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy). The institution has a cooperation agreement with UFSC in all knowledge areas of common interest.

The event will be held on 26 March – 11 a.m. at the School of Socio-Economic Sciences’ (CSE) auditorium – and will be conducted in english by Prof. Glória Lupo Pasini, who, besides working at the institution  is also graduated from it.
